Capacity Building of ESCAP Member States for Managing Globalization

Content rated: Not Rated

Short description
Successive trade liberalizations through multilateral, regional and bilateral negotiations have been opening up market access for many of the developing countries in the ESCAP region. To derive maximum benefit from these liberalizations, the adoption and implementation of trade facilitation measures are essential to improve the trade performance and competitiveness. There is, therefore, growing awareness of the need to systematically apply trade facilitation measures and tools. The application of information and communication technologies (ICT) has been recognized as the key to trade facilitation, raising overall efficiency not only in physical trading of goods and services but also in global networking. Benefits from the efficient trading system, including the reduction in transaction costs and time, can be significant, particularly for landlocked countries to increase efficiency and competitiveness of their trade.
